Well we went and got my daughter a MP3 player for Christmas, namely the Sony Video Man.  Apparently my country CDs aren't really cool and she would like to get some MP3's, I know that Itunes had lots at only 99 cents a song, but I was under the impression that you could only use them like 7 times or something.  What are your guys thoughts on getting MP3's from Itunes.

Thanks in advance.

Oh and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

One problem with Itunes is that they only work for IPods as their songs are protected. There is no limit to the amount times you can play items from Itunes as you bought them.

I would suggest you try Napster or some of the other file sharing networks to get music.

EDITED TO ADD

Itunes can convert from their format to MP3 and vice versa but only for ripped music (i.e.  from a CD).

Stay away from iTunes, that program is terrible unless you have a iPod. I would just go with a P2P program such as Limewire.

You get it for free.. and unless it was changed recently.. Media is information, and Canadians have the right to download information bluh bluh.. so its not illegal? :p

Just watch out for viruses, but thats easy if you make sure the files you download are .mp3, .wma and not things like .zip, .exe, etc

BitComet is probably the easiest to use and has a larger selection than limewire

Thanks, I only know of a couple since I have not really did any downloading for a long time... Was into that during the days of Kazaa (or whatever it was called) lol. Any of those programs will help you better then paying for songs in iTunes and only being able to keep them on there. (you do not get a lot of freedom with iTunes)

EDIT: Here is the links:

http://www.limewire.com/

http://www.bitcomet.com/

Now that I looked at the bitcomet site, I'd recommend that over limewire now also.

You won't get far with Bitcomet unless you have a torrent search site to use with it.  Try these:

http://www.mininova.org/
http://btjunkie.org/

There are others - Google for "bittorrent search sites".  Those sites allow you to find bittorrents, which are links used by Bitcomet (and other Bittorrent clients) to download files.

I wouldn't allow your daughter to go poking around for torrents - most of the sites would have advertising that is unsuitable for children.  There are technical considerations with Bittorrent clients and routers (port forwarding) - see the documentation with Bitcomet for more information.

Thanks for that info, I found the torrent one a bit to complex to use and right now I trying to build the boundries with downloads and how to search.
