The War in Ukraine

B-Bye....

Thoughts on much needed Ukrainian Army reorganization. But very hard to accomplish during heavy combat.
I has not actually thought about it until now but the UKR Army C2 structure sounds like a disaster.
Trying to conduct large scale combat on the scale of this war with only Bdes and adhoc geographic commands, no Div or Corps HQ or echelon above Bde forces coordinated by those Divs and Corps sounds like a very difficult way to prosecute the fight. Especially if you’re aiming for combined arms manoeuvre warfare.

Sounds sort of like they; like everyone circa 2004-2022; were enamoured with the idea of Bdes being the key formation. Unfortunately they seem to have got caught needing to transform under fire while NATO forces are trying to reform Divs and Corps along with their EAB formations due to the war’s lessons.

"MAY"?!?!?!?!

a decade late and a trillion$ short

"We don't have any indication yet that Russia intends to go to war, but if such sentiments gain the upper hand in the government in Moscow, then the risk for a military confrontation will grow over the coming years."

News flash, they have been at war with us for at least a decade, and have publicly and repeatedly stated so for at least 3 years. So what is NATO¹ going to do about it? The denial of reality is strong...

And I REALLY REALLY REALLY wish people, especially the media, would stop quoting tropes about article 5 and actually READ the f'n thing (article 6 also)

Apparently Ukrainian special forces have been operating in Syria since the beginning of the year and alongside Syrian opposition forces have been conducting attacks on Russian positions in the Golan Heights.

Yeah, about that, wonder if/how much they may be helping out here, too?

Truce for NATO membership...

Shame about that whole "no territorial disputes in play" thing before being able to join NATO.

Meanwhile, not everyone seems to be showing up to the party - or leaving early.

West Germany was invited to NATO, despite West Germany claiming all of Germany as its territory…

There is a precedent for that, and another ‘Cold War’.

But Russia in no way would accept that, as they know exactly what would happen when the Ukrainian parts of Ukraine thrive and the Russian parts just get shittier.

Canada and Denmark are technically in a territorial dispute. Weak justification on NATOs part

I suspect with Russia busy and Hezbollah beaten to a pulp, the usual suspects saw an opportunity. The remaining Hezbollah forces need to support Syria, as they will lose access to Iranian arms if Syria falls.
