Had the recent opportunity to stick my sizable # 13‘s in my gob yet again by addressing a young Master Bombadier as Master Corporal. After getting a serious but polite rebuttal from the M/Bdr, I asked the soldier by what authority they were to be called by their trade and rank rather than just their rank? I got a pair of shrugged shoulders shoved my way and I then informed the M/Cpl that when she knew WHY I was to call her M/Bdr I would be happy to do so...until then, she was M/Cpl to me!
I know that this will probably put some Arty noses askew and I sorry if I have offended the great RCA but, I get wrapped around the axle real quick when someone that should know, doesn‘t know and advises me that I‘m wrong because they say so.
To summarize is ther anyone out there that can tell me with some knowledge and authority why M/Cpl‘s in the Artillery are to be called M/Bdr when they wear the rank of two hooks and a maple leaf?
While we‘re on the subject I know that several people have posted names for Privates that are trade or Regimentally specific but where do they come from? I know that in my Regiment, every trained Private is called a "Highlander" because our sister Regiment in the old country does it and it seems to be appropriate for our troops as well. I‘m very interested in these facts as it was a question from one of my soldiers the other day while on course and it‘s important that I can find an answer for him.
