So 30 years after building a bunch of army buildings on the flight line, Edmonton's going to be hosting hercs again.

Not C-130 Hercs, C-330 Huskies. I'm guessing it comes down to space and the fact YEG already has A330 appropriate facilities.

Edit: I also suspect that fact it's not Cold Lake is a factor... It's hard to get people interested in living there.

There, FTFY ;)

I know a number of folks posted kicking and screaming into Cold Lake and, years later, posted kicking and screaming out of Cold Lake.

I know a few as well, but I know far more that went reluctantly, and were glad to get out as soon as possible.

All postings have their fans, some people(me) even like Gagetown...

Edmonton International and Base Edmonton (Namao) are not the same thing.

Being in a major city that is focus city or hub for various carriers (cargo and pax) also means access to a large pool of type qualified pilots and techs. Potential for employing more reservists.

This was also partly why Ottawa and Mirabel were looked at for the Eastern MOB. Too bad they didn't pan out.

MOB may be overstating things a bit. Probably more like how 412 Sqn operated out of CYOW…not even on the military side of the airfield.

I think the government is calling it the Husky MOB in their PR. It's a MOB for a specific fleet.

Fair enough. 👍🏼 I thought it sounded like a full-on RCAF MOb, vs where the 330s would log/maint/op turnaround at YEG.

I'm not 100% on this. But I think for a lot of support contracts they're usually written such that they identify the main operating locations for a given fleet. Those will be the MOBs that must have full contractor support. And then the commitments dial down from there for remote locations, FOLs, etc.
