Apparently they are, and in lieu of any further exposition beyond that one word, here is my conclusion. If this confusion is the purpose of the "information operation". then you gentlemen are very crafty indeed.

//snip//

With all due respect, why not? I'm sure analysts all over Canada and the world are doing so as we speak. I was just "discussing" and speculating on this very issue with my next door neighbour, it didn't go too far as neither myself nor my neighbour knew a thing about what force protection measures and alert states are like in theatre, but I hope no one called CSIS on us! Now, discussion that includes DISCLOSURE of sensitive information on a public message board would be another matter entirely, but I don't think I have to worry about that too much, seeing as how I don't actually posses any.

Hmmmm.........Why not???

Consider this.  You claim in your profile to be 17 yrs old, a 15 year old Private Air Cadet, and 'In my dreams'.  How am I expected to take you serioously.  Also your sarcasm, sentence structure, grammer, and observation skills would indicate to me that you are clearly misrepresenting yourself.  I would be perfectly willing to PM a logical and honest answer to your question, if/and/or when you grow T F U.

Kevin,

Maybe you are right, I've shot Aimpoint once. It was probably an ACOG. Did your buddies have any difficulty getting hired? Everything I've found is that you have to know someone to get a job. At least with the American companies. My buddy just deployed on his second contract but he has duel citizenship, he tried to bring a couple of us down but there was some crap about nationalities. I have heard a couple horror stories about some of the Brit companies.

Do you recomend the A&D webbing? Which one do you have?

why are all the faces blurred? Is it because what they are doing confidential or is it some by-law on the site that i missed?

Most likely due to your behaviour and perceived attitude ...

That was a joke, I'm sure neither I nor Mr. Bolan actually thought I was feeling harrassed. Obviously I'm too subtle for my own good sometimes.  Please, sleep sound in the knowledge that noone was feeling harrased.

.i.e. are you one of those who enjoys trolling and picking fights?
If so, please stop trolling here.

To answer you question, no, my purpose here is not to "troll", and franky I'm a little miffed that you even brought that up. If, in turn, you found any of my comments to be uncivil or offensive, please point it out to me. I would hate for this discussion to fall to such depth. It will be my loss, as I've much to learn from experienced and knowledgeble members such as yourself.

I would be perfectly willing to PM a logical and honest answer to your question, if/and/or when you grow T F U.

But if you did, wouldn't all the information operations stuff go out the window?

Also your sarcasm, sentence structure, grammer, and observation skills would indicate to me that you are clearly misrepresenting yourself.

Irrelevent to the argument at hand. Whether I am misrepresenting myself or not has naught to do with the subject of armour, patrolling, afghanistan, or alert states. According to the board rules, I am not obliged to disclose any personal information in the profile. I admit that I am not, in fact, an air cadet, it was meant to be an attempt at humor. I can reset the profile if it bothers you.

How am I expected to take you serioously.

Then don't.

Doesn't make me wrong though, does it?  Make fun of me all you want, at the end of the day, there's still a picture on this forum showing a soldier patrolling in A'stan without armour. That's all I've ever claimed to know.

I'm also somewhat bemused at the needless references to one's "profile" that we seem to love so much. I honestly have not bothered to look at anyone's profile here.  If I'm stating a fact, then either I am right or I am wrong( and I've provided references to all my sources, with caveats if I think they are unreliable).  If I am giving an opinion, it either makes sense or it doesn't. I've not made any claims( at least in this post)  on anecdotes or personal experiences. So what on earth does my profile have to do with this? The argument's a little weak don't you think?

Gentlemen, while I like sharp, critical thinking as much as anyone else, I'm a little dismayed at the belligerent reception I've been given. Misspelled posts written in capital letters by children inquiring about where to buy cadpat for airsoft games seeminly deserve courteous, helpful replies, while mine do not.  Why is this? I expected well thought out, intelligent discussion from you, and I've tried to provide the same. Please don't prove me wrong.

Alex - some CF members dont want their face on the net...

Westie - my buddy's US - but yeah it is a LOT easier to get hired if you know someone...  A friend of mine manages for Triple Canopy and it is amazing how quickly locked doors pop open for friends...

A certain ex Para Bty troop, turned Pat turned RRR Sgt can give first hand horrors stories of what happens when jobs (in Africa) go bad...  Some on here might know him.

I got the A&D "military operations vest" a few of us got them prior to winging off - then he did up a few C9 gunner vests for our C9 gunners
- mine got snagged in a vehicle and the pocket started to come off - other than Dave can be slow sometimes the quality is quiet good for what you pay for.

I know of a Royal Marine who originally hails from here, who got out, went back to work private security, was there three days and left! There was a company that started up in Edmonton last spring, they sent me a recruitment letter but I thought better of it.

Are things pretty quiet over there?  So did you guys get the Aimpoints issued, was it CO purchase or your own? I see the army has let up a bit on the parade square-type crap - the old "we'll issue you only 5 mags but we'll give you 300 rounds..." Although the new TV still reflects on old attitudes. I know in Blackwater, their standard load-out is 12 mags plus whatever else they can bring along! We did a FIBUA ex in Ft Lewis a couple of years ago and I wanted the RQ to issue 10 mags per but it took a direct order from the CO to make it happen!!!

Hmm a former Royal Marine, originally from Edmonton, who started a Private company a couple of years ago(in Edmonton) died last year in Iraq. He was one of the first 4 contractors killed..... :-[

A good man.....a little on the spun side however...

I wonder per chance if we are talking about the same individual.....

Actually, the man you speak of lived in Victoria at the time of his death. The person I'm speaking of is from Vancouver and had fought through Afghanistan and Iraq with the RM, before going private. After realizing it was f***ed up he is now back in the RM. One of my closest friends from here was also in the RM, he went after our tour in Croatia. It seems there are quit a few people from here who went there!!!

Right there was an incident that caused him to relocate....I didnt realize their were that many Canadians going and coming from the RM into the Private area.....hmm.  :o

I guess I come from a rather unique unit. We've had everything from SA Pathfinders/RLI, Rangers, Foreign Legion, AUS Commandos, RM SBS, Brit Para, RM Mountain&Arctic Cadre. Not to mention the requisite number of VP guys. I guess that's one of the neat things about reserve units. We've had guys who came to us with that experience and guys who have left to gain that experience.

Cool pics, I notice you're carrying an Aimpoint and some other goodies. You don't get any grief for it? I' trying to decide what to buy, Aimpoint or EOTech.   My buddy works for Blackwater and they swear buy Aimpoint. Headshot at 350m with it. Hate to ask a dumb question, what is A&D? What is their website.   We don't have the TV's out on the west coats yet, but I've tried them and realized very quickly that they won't work for light infantry.

I venture to suggest the fact that someone say they can make "headshots" at 350m has more to do with the shooter rather then the aimpoint alone.  If you can't shoot well, a aimpont won't help much.  Gotta say a headshot at 350m's is pretty good for a 1x dot-scope, that has a 4moa dot, they must get to shoot a lot  hehe >:D

Aimpoints, ACOGs etc, won't make a bad shooter shoot well, but they will help a good shooter better.  Being a former Marine I've seen a few good shooters over the years...

If fact one gentleman here in the local area with 103 confirmed kills in Veitnam, Republic of..... quite a interesting man to speak with...  Nov. 10 is coming up Happy Birthday to the Marines out there where ever they are.

Friend of mine's dad use to tell him "Son if you got a choice to fight with someone 20 years old or 40 years old, pick the 20 year old, cause you never know where the old guys been for the last 20 years...."  Both of them tabbed and scrolled Rangers....

Hmmmmm.......Intelligent and articulate.....there is hope.

At the risk of sounding pretentious, I look forward to your input........ if you can get beyond that big hunk of sarcasm that's firmly planted under your armpit and clearly acts as your crutch. ;)

Rollover_pic_2Copy.jpg

We rolled a LAV the other day driving down a narrow road that gave way.  Luckily the Crew commander was switch on, and the moment he felt the road give way he stopped the LAV and got everyone out.  He then proceded to ground guided to safety but it didn't work.  No one was hurt, although the driver was a bit shaken.  The best part is after 12-14 hours on it's turret, they right the vehicle and voilia it started just fine.  The vehicle itself is a write off (2.5 million dollars), as is the C9 that was in the pintle.

If the vehicle started and drove away under its own power, its probably not a write off.  I imagine the turrent will have issues and the vehicle will need to be returned to Canada....

Thankfully no one was hurt...

I'm just going off what the mechanics had said, but you are probably right.   I wouldn't be surprised to see it roaming around again someday.   But they do have to gut the vehicle completly and check all the welds, and other structural components to ensure there are no cracks anywhere.   Hello third line :)

They did mention that all they'll be using that vehicle for in the near future is for parts over here.

Hmm, I think that is called canabalizing and is usually frowned upon.  ;)

Correct, but only partially.  There's "robbing", which normally means the parts will be replaced ASAP, and "canabalizing" (sp?), which is far more serious (as in you're assuming a vehicle will be permanently down) and normally requires formal authority to do.

If the CC handled the rollover as described by MJP, well done him!  You'd be surprised at how well the AVGP/LAV family handles slow rollovers - I wouldn't write the thing off yet.  As MJP says, if the hull is sound, it should be good to go after turret repairs.

Mike,

You guys really are trying to go home now, aren't you  ;)
