Hey everyone,

As someone who is looking to purchase a furry four legged companion in the future, I'm curious on the Forces and dogs regarding how they fit into army life. As of now outside of the forces, I have plenty of time for a dog, but with goals to join the Canadian Army, I'm curious how much of an impact that will make on things. Obviously deployments would be a long stretch away from the dog, but how about during regular time when stationed with a unit?

Any input on this is greatly appreciated! :)

If you are going to live in barracks,  you can not have pets.

If you get a PMQ or live off base you are good.

Depending on where you get posted/unit,  the time away varies.  With a Infantry unit I've been away anywhere from 1 week - 2 months on exercise,  plus deployments and courses.

If you are single,  and going to a field unit having a dog probably won't work out unless you have a friend to look after the dog while you are away.

The ability to have dogs is as good a reason to get married as many others....

Some people, when faced with a problem in life, choose to get married. Now they have two problems.

If you do decide to get a dog, I would suggest going to a rescue and adopt. But definitely do some research before hand to make sure you choose a breed that is right for you and your situation.
