Missing reference email during background check

Sorry if this has been asked before but I’m missing 3 emails out of the 4 job references I’ve put on my application, one guy is private and hasn’t been willing to provide the email but has given me his phone number. Other job I had legal issues due to pay problems and they served me with a lawyer letter on my last day so I only have a phone number not sure if they will pick up and the last missing email is a multi national that don’t give references my boss likes me but only number I had is HR because they have a not reference policy.

In the email it says the following:Failure to provide the emails in a timely manner will result in the check(s) not being completed

Not sure what am I supposed to do since I’ve emailed the recruiter about this yesterday before they sent out these email.

You should exhaust every possible option you have for acquiring a reachable email address for the 2/3 that don’t have a “no references” policy.

I was given an alternative to complete this verification for one employer after trying for over a week to contact a defunct company.

Make your calls, send emails, call the customer service line if you need to. Put the effort in so you know you have done everything you possibly can to do this the proper way.

For another company I had to contact my old training manager by phone. He then hooked me up with a HR employee who reviewed my file and completed this for me. 5 days of calling, emailing and waiting.

If you have a good reason for not being able to complete this the primary way, you may also be given an alternative. I would try my best to reduce this from three issues to one issue, though.

I can’t say if all of what I’ve said here is necessary, worst case Ontario you worked a little harder to either strengthen your application, or leave it the same. It can’t hurt to try.

There is a difference between "references" and "employment history". If what you need is to fill out the "employment history", then you can put the contact information (phone/e-mail) for HR if you don't have the contact info for your former supervisor.

If the company refuses to verify your employment with them when contacted during the background check process, then that won't be held against you... failing to list former employment will, however, potentially prevent an applicant from being granted the required security clearance.

Personal "references" don't need to be former employers, but they can be if your supervisor agrees.

It’s just a retail job 4 years ago I’m going to try and see if I can get HR to pickup but it’s Christmas and people go on vacation.

Companies with a no reference policy sound suspicious to me. Same with conpanies thay don't use email. I'm not current with hiring practices though so maybe that's normal now?

You could make a gamble and put down whatever email address you can find for the company - it's not exactly on you if the company doesn't respond to CAF recruiters emailing them.

This works sometimes:

Write a description of your time working for the organization you can't get a reference from. Three of four sentences should do it. Describe your roles, responsibilities, workload and any innovations or improvements you helped champion. If you have them, mention that you hold pay stubs of proof of employment if they require you to show that.

Also mention your efforts to contact them at their last known address, to no avail. Include their website address, or any other social media links.
