This is probably a stupid question but does light infantry ever use the lav's or is it Strictly on foot and does light infantry use helicopters. Do you have a choice of being mechanized or light infantry?

You have no say as to which battalion you go to,  only which regiment.

At times Light Infantry have ridden in vehicles such as the LAV, TLAV and RG.  Light Infantry can be transported into an area via helicopter,  the jump company in a Light battalion can also parachute from planes and helicopters.

Mechanized Infantry are not always employing the LAVs,  they can be dismounted and walk everywhere,  they can also be inserted/extracted by helicopters,  etc

Sometimes the helicopter pilots are really lazy and don't even land! They make you slide down a rope hanging over the side.

Hah. You got over the whole heights thing, then?

I believe you can request your battalion through your career counsellor. This does not mean by any means that you will get what you want.

Aw this is no fun I thought it was going to be another good bun fight about Light vs Mec infantry with a bit of this :slapfight: some of this :bigfight: and a lot of this  :deadhorse: I was planning on doing this :stirpot: and some of this :pop: how ever it turned out to be :boring:

Must be hard finding a parachute big enough for the LAV though. >:D

It's do able with other vehicles... not sure how many troops would volunteer to ride in a LAV on the way down how ever  :D

Russians seem to be able to do it though
Russian army airborne troops parachuted BMD-2 armoured with crew inside Ria Novosti

Just so everyone here is aware 2VP is the best. I was told multiple times that I was in the best platoon of the best company of the best battalion of the best regiment in the world...or was it universe? Either way, it's the best, just ask us.  :threat:

WRT to Russians, I bet they were *volunteers* from one of the Penal Battalions  >:D.

Also wonder what size Depends they wore; hard to 'check canopy' etc.  :panic: I'd also be curious what they used for a reserve or their water landing drills.  >:D

Do i have an option on weather i choose light infantry or mechanized,

Can you transfer to light infantry after bmq if you are in mechanized

At some point during DP1 Infantry you will find out which battalion you are going to. Sometimes an entire course goes as a whole to one battalion, sometimes the course is split up. If the entire course is going to a Mech Bn you are going to a Mech Bn. If the course is being split up to multiple battalions the course staff will probably ask the course their posting preferences.

If you end up in a Mech Bn, after a few years you can put in a request to be posted to the 3rd battalion, and see what happens.
