I'd love to read something positive about our forces so I asked the DND about a website where I can find out about awards our military may have received. They pointed me to the Veterans' website which is nice but surely we've won some awards, been recognized since World War II?????   I've seen a couple of people mention things on this website so perhaps you can point me in the right direction? If we don't have such a website - shouldn't we? I think it would be terrific.

You really love to pester the DND, don't you.

One simple Google and everything is at your fingertips....

I think melane wants names of persons who have won the awards.

Again as Infanteer mentioned Google might be a good place to start.

Latest ones I have heard of were 2 reciepents of the GG's Star of Courage.

Armymedic - thank you! That's exactly what I wanted. Not necessarily names but what you've listed is great. Pester - yea I guess I do. I write articles from time to time - I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a "writer". that's too grand but ... occasionally yes. If I don't ask! I have friends in the forces and I just don't think that they get the credit they deserve. I got into a conversation with a friend of mine on the weekend (the wife of a medic) and we talked about the lack of recognition and positive stuff in the news. Just got me to thinking and there I was off pestering the DND again.

See my page on Victoria Cross nominees at www.canadiansoldiers.com - these were men nominated, but who received lesser awards instead.

EDIT - oops, just noticed your caveat....

Wow,  I have witnessed some bashing on this site, but none quite as ignorant and venomous as this.  I hope your post gave you some sense of gratification, because you just defined the term "LOSER" perfectly.

Here are two Peace Time Awards.

AWARD
OF
MEDAL OF BRAVERY

Second Lieutenant Peter Martinis, M.B., 48TH HIGHLANDERS OF CANADA, Toronto, Ont.

On September 11, 2001, 2Lt Martinis and MCpl Stibbard risked their lives to help two police officers apprehend an assailant in Toronto, Ontario. The soldiers were carrying out sentry duties at Moss Park Armouries when a disturbed individual who was denied access to the premises confronted them. While 2Lt Martinis tried to calm him, MCpl Stibbard alerted two passing police officers of the escalating situation. Although the officers attempted to subdue the resisting individual, a violent confrontation ensued and, as they wrestled the aggressor to the ground, he managed to grab hold of one officer's gun. Wanting to prevent a tragedy, 2Lt Martinis rushed to the officers' help but found himself with the gun pointed directly at him. Undeterred, 2Lt Martinis was able to grab the assailant's arm and direct the weapon away from the officers. Realizing the gravity of the situation and despite the risks, MCpl Stibbard joined the struggle and managed to wrench the gun from the assailant's grasp. The man was finally overpowered and arrested.

Thanks for the help. I found a couple of things "googling" but I get the feeling lots is missing or I don't know what to punch in when "googling".

p.s. if anyone knows of anything else - doesn't even have to be awards - can be stuff like our snipers making longest shot ever (was that awarded?) anyway you get the picture.
