Hi there guys, first off I guess I'll give a little introduction. My name is Josh Saumure, I'm 24 and married, was formerly a foreman rodman (placing rebar) and a journeyman post tension cable hand. I also have 8 welding tickets and given the way things are right now I'm entering the forces. I'm from Sudbury Ontario and with INCO being on strike things are rough to say the least.
Anyway I wanted to join when I was 20 but I was offered a really good job in Calgary and ended up taking it. I've been to the recruiting office twice now and I'm going to be signing up for Materials Technician April 1st. I was told by the SGT. that I spoke with that if I bring all of my tickets and certs I'll likely be made Private first class so I was wondering what type of pay increase I'd be looking at with that promotion. Also wondering if you guys have any advice for someone just entering the forces and if you know anything about the trade I'm going to be entering.
Also I want to note I'm not entering the forces just due to "bad times" I've wanted to since I was 18, more than anything the bad times are an excuse for me to enter without too much argument from my wife. I've been interested in the military and history all of my life and I've had family members serve in WWII, Korea and Afghanistan and I want to do something with my life that I can be proud of. I'm also looking to go the career route and want to do university through correspondence. I know there's a lot of info here to address but I'd greatly appreciate any responses, thanks a lot guys have a good one.
