Those pilots really fought hard to keep that aircraft under control, that there are any survivors is a testament to their efforts.
Reminds me of the Sioux City crash where they had to bring it in and land on engine power only, no hydraulics. Many died but some walked out. Those pilots really fought hard to keep that aircraft under control, that there are any survivors is a testament to their efforts.

May the pilots and passengers of the Azerbaijani flight rest in peace. Amazing that any survived.
Yes. Given that there was ongoing air attack and air defence activity, I doubt anything was going normally. But sending it out of the area entirely with some sort of catastrophic emergency (I doubt ATC would have known a missile hit), and probably numerous wounded onboard is incomprehensible. My best guess is ATC, in good Soviet fashion, simply said all airspace is closed and GTFO.
bit of a trek to get across the sea

Agreed.
I also agree Russian needs to be slapped a few times. This is murder - like the Iranian shootdown.
I’ve seen this said elsewhere as well. Not surprising or even unreasonable if they were under air attack.Stephan Watkins has a piece up that suggests GPS blocking / spoofing occured prior to the incident.
Watkins is a weird dude fond of shouting into the void, but sometimes puts some good stuff together. Thanks for that one.Found it:
