Attempted murder charges laid in Fairview shooting

Man shot in leg at barbershop

An 18-year-old man charged with shooting a man in a Fairview barbershop made a brief appearance in Halifax provincial court Tuesday.

Decoda Devon White, of Halifax, was arraigned on two charges of attempted murder and several weapons offences, including carrying a concealed weapon.

White was remanded into custody until his next court appearance on April 24. He was arrested on Albro Lake Road in Dartmouth Monday afternoon.

About 12 people were waiting inside Fademasters Barber Shop on Titus Street Saturday afternoon when a gunman burst inside and opened fire.

Maurice Sneddon, 41, — an innocent bystander — was shot in the leg. The apparent target, a 23-year-old man, was hit in the wrist and treated at hospital.

Sneddon is a military police officer and survived two tours of duty in Afghanistan unscathed. He told CBC News he was lucky to be alive after the barbershop attack.

"It could have went so differently. Just inches or so, it could have been my torso, a head shot," he said Monday. "It could have gone anywhere. I am so lucky to be here."

"Mau" isn't an MPO, he is an MP, for those who don't know him.

Speedy recovery big guy!  :cdn:

Saw this story on CBC Halifax super time news. Great group of people at the barber shop.  The report didn't tell us that Mr. Sneddon was an MP but he came across as a leader, a strong and intelligent spoken individual.

I know the MP. Wish him a speedy recovery. And hope there are no career implications due to this medcial issue. Also hoping the shooter gets the book thrown at him. There was no need for stupid acts. This city has been going downhill.

TN

Rick Howe interviewed two retired HRM Police officers who are campainging for seats in the upcoming elections.  Their take on the spate of gun violence here as of late is that it is all drug related.  They had a statement from Cst. Brian Palmeter as well on the investigation.  He did not come right out and say it, but reading between the lines it came across as the individual was if not known by police he at least was on their radar as the investigation led them to him fairly swiftly.  This city has been sliding downhill on greased rails for many years now.  It's sad, but not surprising when things like this happen.
