BFTs in City Equals "The Start Of A Police State"

It happened to 12 Services Battalian (Richmond, BC) this year. They were doing a ruck march with tac vest, helmet, "full kit and kaboodle" (cannot remember if they had weapons with them) through Richmond when some concerned citizen reported armed men marching along the road; next thing RCMP...

    Namibia

LOL Particularly interested in the reaction of the SADF guys to the UN `s arrival.I read that the UN peacekeepers were not well thought of, particularly when SWAPO/PLAN started the insurgency again in controvention of the agreement and ceasefire put in place.

Continental ? Are you talking about the Kalahari Sands Hotel, which was part of the Southern Suns Group of hotels. We used to call it the Windhoek Sun, if memory serves me correctly it was the only major hotel in Windhoek at the time, mind you I was not sober most of the time when we were...

Cash Crisis cripples South African Air Force

Its not "like a war zone" ..it is a war zone. More people are murdered each month in SA (approx.1750 per month) than were killed in Israel`s excursion into Lebanon recently, and this is month after month after month. The poor cops lose about 1500 officers a year to murder and shootings, the...

Cash Crisis cripples South African Air Force

CougarDaddy The problem is not strictly a money issue as with most militaries these days, but one of institunalized reverse racism. The laws (as it stands now in SA if you follow events there at all) is that any position has to be offered to a black person first, therefore you will find that...

    Georgia and the Russian invasions/annexations/Lebensraum (2008 & 2015)

Russia claims 10 of there peacekeepers were killed by the Georgians and that this was one of the reasons for the invasion. Isn`t this a bit like the Taliban sending peacekeepers to Afghanistan. Common sense and politics make strange bed fellows.

CAN Says "No, Thanks" to Commanding UN Congo Mission

No offence is taken as regards your comments RE white SA`s, because this is a common refrain expressed by those in the "West" who on the whole have never lived in Africa at all, and their only experience and knowledge regarding this socially complicated continent is through the latest Discovery...

CAN Says "No, Thanks" to Commanding UN Congo Mission

With all due respect I find the above points from A to D laughable in its naivety, spoken as only a Western Liberal can say it. While I sit and type this response I think of my old homeland, the country that the whole world held up as a shining example of Democracy, good honest governance...

Police pulling guns on Reservists in BC

One of the Senior NCO`s who was organising the BFT told us, so I assume it was accurate.

Police pulling guns on Reservists in BC

The Seaforth Highlanders (Vancouver) were supposed to do the BFT last night, but it was cancelled due to an incident last Wednesday whereby the 12 th Service Battalion in Richmond had the police draw there arms on the Reservists. Apparentley the service battalion guys were doing there BFT when...

Former ANC Guerillas Push for S.African Vets' Ministry

Its about time. Its a disgrace that SA has done nothing for any veterans irrespective of the side you were on during the 30 year war that went on in SWA (now Namibia) We (SADF AND MK veterans) received no Medical, Psychological or any other help or benefits whatsoever. I remember "klaaring...

    Ignorant Civies

What comebacks (funny or serious) have you used with stupid civilian comments. I thought I would start a thread dedicated to this subject as there must be quite a few gems out there that can be used .

    Ignorant Civies

Ah , just thought I would mention that some of us are immigrants ...and we serve our new home and country in the military , in fact NONE of my friends all Canadian born and bred, serve Canada in uniform at present or have done so in the past, except one who is a police officer, yet they have...

blisters...tips to prevent? tips to treat them ?

Maybe in the civilian world having blisters is considered being wounded as you say. In the military world having blisters and humiliation is part and parcel of training. When I was wounded in a grenade explosion months later while on ops in S.W.A. I was medevacked out of the contact in 20...

blisters...tips to prevent? tips to treat them ?

This is a subject near and dear to my heart. There is one solution to this problem Merthiolate Lotion ...but first let me tell you a story and how I came to believe in this Elixor of blistered feet and how I reclaimed my manhood...LOL ;D During basic training in 1981 in the SADF you were...

Any Old Timer Recruits out there?

I wasn`t sure if I should start another thread on this topic, so to avoid the wrath of the moderators I thought it best to revive the current one even though no further word by  M 58 has been heard. Is he MIA ? I was quite curious as to how he has held up/is holding up as I`m in the same...

Huh? Limitations of wheeled APCs have been made glaringly apparent?

We had to leave one tank behind which had been damaged (we wanted to avoid giving  propaganda material to the Cubans and Ruusians ) as the recovery crews couldn`t remove it due to the type of terrain. Would have not been a problem with a lighter APC.
