Instead of CIA aren't you entitled to PIA if your injuries/illness meets the criteria? Not too familiar with the Pension Act benefits. Steve

My percentage is based on longevity, etc as described by my family doctor. ADL's do play a part but not a large part. ADL's come into effect for CIA. Since I don't meet the ADL's and medical component (amputee, etc) of CIA I don't qualify for CIA even though I am DEC. I have a new application in...

    Red Zone of files [Merged]

The re-assessment took as long as it did because I needed to be stable enough for the doctor to make an assessment on my condition and what my chances were for survival. Re-assessment couldn't have been done quicker. It took quite awhile for my body to heal from the operation (very major...

I thought it was caused from all the very filthy air in Afghanistan and Syria when I was in both of these places. But, it turns out that I had a note on my file that stated I was exposed to burning asbestos in the early 80's. This was good enough to connect the dots in my favour that my cancer...

    Red Zone of files [Merged]

Hi iltis1994, I was red flagged for my disability (cancer). It took approximately 4 weeks from submission of my claim to a decision (approved 5/5ths). It took another 6 months for the re-assessment. I needed to be stable enough after my operation before a re-assessment could be made. Steve

    DEC and CIA

Arty Sim, Send a VAC message on your VAC account asking your CM to request a DEC consideration for you. Go over the DEC policy and ensure you paint a clear picture to your CM on your total physical and mental limitations. Describe everything, don't leave anything out. While you are at it...

    DEC and CIA

Thanks for the GreenArmyChick and BeachExplorer. Much appreciated. I am not expecting to be approved for CIA, but, I had to try to put this to rest once and for all. Steve1959

    DEC and CIA

Thanks Teager. I will be contacting the Ombudsman for their input. Notwithstanding, I don't think that the CIA policy was written for veterans with medical issues such as mine. C'est la vie. Steve

    DEC and CIA

Teager, When I was denied CIA (and CIA review) in January/February 2018 it was because I didn't meet the "time remaining" in the military component of CIA, nor did I meet the medical component of CIA (blind, amputee, etc). I figure that since I am now DEC with the numerous medical conditions...

    DEC and CIA

Teager, BeachExplorer and GreenArmyChick, I am in a situation similar to your questions and responses. I have been approved a disability benefit at 109% (NVC) with numerous consequential claims that have been approved but no percentage as I am already over 100%. All claims are of a physical...
