In regards to the ALS Paramedics, it is a fantastic idea to have them, but for the needs of the CF, the PA and senior medics seem to do just fine. It is nice to have all those fancy skills, but in our job it's how fast you plug the hole and how fast you get them to the OR. We as medics have a...
Hey Moe ! We had a full time PMED, but when we got on ground the higher ups changed their minds. We got them to visit for two week stretches, but when we grew in size we could have used PMED full time. Hopefully our replacements brought a PMED full time for the camp. :salute:
I was one of the patrole medics stationed at the PRT and we never had a full time P-MED Tech with us, we were supposed to but it didn't happen. You don't have to worry too much about the camp if you stay on top of things. I can't tell you how many pers are on the camp but it has gone up in...
The CF had more of an airborne medical capability during the time we had the Airborne Regt. around. Example, 2FD AMB had an airborne tmt and evac coy that had jump medics and all the heavy med kit was air drop capable. There are not enough jump qualified medics anymore and that's a shame. :salute:
Just for your info, the Bison Ambs do leave the camps and are out everywhere you could imagine and have taken quite the beatings. The boats have to be up with the fighting troops so they can act as the CCP and evac to the fobs, etc. :cdn:
Yes they are very sharp looking and wow do they ever show up well when hit with the headlights. I don't know what kind of reflective stickers they use, but they show up way better than the old white ones. :cdn:
The ASD would probably have the pump action shotgun as a secondary weapon like most other police services. As for investigating offences, they can investigate offences that they have a mandate for ie; traffic accidents with no injured persons, controlled substances, etc, as for fedral laws I am...
The ASD which used to be " Provincial Constables " have always been armed, the name and some taskings have changed. They now have traffic enforcement duties ( highway traffic act, environmental protection act, liquor control/DUI, etc ) Most of the time you would see them transporting prisoners...
The jump bags came with all the inserts and such, not a bad purchase for once. It has a fanny pack and a valice/compression sack as well. For our patrol medics who go out for extended patrols and such, you can leave the small pack at the camp and have everything you need attached to one bag...
Yes that's the bag we have right now. It's not bad, but the stitching needs to be improved because we are finding that the shoulder straps are coming apart from the bag itself. It is way more user friendly than the old jump bag, but like anything new and improved, people still have their own...
Actually, we do have new jump bags in theater now. It started out as a trial, but we now have enough of them to supply the medics out in the sandbox. The SO Tech bag is a tan modular bag that can be utilized depending on the mission requirements. It has the ability to hold some pers kit as well...
The drivers licence would help, but not needed since you would get driver training on any vehicles that the unit required you to operate as a med tech. Also, try taking an Emergency Medical Responder course to help your resume stand out a bit. This also gets the mind ready for all the medical...
Oh yes, I forgot about the long drawn out and often useless way we go about getting our kit. For once could they just get stuff that works and proven ? Who knows, maybe someday it could happen. :cdn:
The only saving grace for the medics at both the fd amb and the field hospital is the pending merger of medics. From what I hear, the 1CFH will be closed. C-Med will watch over the kit, and 2FD Amb will grow from 300 to 600 pers, making it a med support regt. In a way this can solve manpower...
Crestline Coach makes a series of boxes for ambs that could fill the role. Whatever chassis is chosen, it does'nt matter as long as it can do the job. My preference would be to stick to the MILCOT, just in a reg cab configuration. As well, you would'nt need to have a head-set on to talk to your...
Like I said before, we do both jobs not only here, but in garrison as well. If the role 3 types have been on the front line, why then don't we have more of them out here ? As for rotating medics during a tour, by all means, the problem is well stated by GO!!!. The medics we have now have been...
Well I have yet to see a medic from role 3 out here, maybe they did a convoy task once or twice, but nothing out to where the stuff happens. As for bells and whistles, we have our fair share of high priced machines that go " Bing". In our UMS not only do we provide patrol medics, we do the...
That's right, the role 3 types don't understand the environment the patient came from or the problems we face as the role 1 medics. The problem is that the hospital medics do not get the same kind of opportunities as the FD AMB medics get. I have nothing against the medics at the MMU, but you...
As for the LSVW, we could go back to the CUCV concept for garrison duties and other basic med coverage taskings. Nothing fancy, just the basics. Armoured ambs will be the mainstay of future operations because I don't think a soft-skin amb should be in this neck of the woods. :cdn:
