There is also the fact the NSM is a land attack missile as well, and will be aboard the RCN's RCDs... You know that whole crazy idea of using a common system in the CAF when they make sense, so that we can simplify logistics and training.
250km seems pretty long range, and guided cruise...
The problem with those designs, is that they are designed for different waters, and very different strategic situations.
If we had an adversary on the other side of the Gulf of St Lawrence, then maybe those ships would make sense for us, but giver we have two very large oceans between us and...
The Reg F or the GoC?
That was also the last time the GoC decided to cut the PYs to maintain capabilities... That worked well for both the Reg f and Res F it seems. đŸ˜‰
My point regarding the 10 IPCs for Capt. was more that NCMs cap out at the working rank much sooner than their officer counterparts. Which leads to a need to get promoted to get pay increases. That incentivises moving past the level they should stay at to gain experience, and coach/mentor the...
I thnk you're both right.
At the leadership level, it should be an up or out, but at the actual journeyman level, people should be able to linger.
That there are 10 IPCs for Capts is an insult to NCMs. Yet every time I hear a senior person talk about pay and benefits, they start by looking...
I think this should be trade dependant, because one of the biggest issues in my occupation is people moving too fast. We need a lot more CFLs to round out our numbers, and mentor the new Techs coming up.
This is why pan-CAF solutions don't usually work. Each occupation has it's own issues, and...
Absolutely fair points, and I can't really disagree, having spent time in action on guns while rounds were incoming. There is a degree of pucker factor when standing up at a gun when you know rounds are incoming.
My only concern is that we tie ourselves exclusively to a complex system that is...
Fair, point. Weirdly, I have seen people ask permission to enter the bridge, though it was usually junior ranks asking permission/clearance from the boatswains mate or lookout. I have also seen the BM turn people away without a single word being said to the OOW.
I suspect being an officer made...
If the carbon tax applied by the LPC had done any of those things it might have been more acceptable. All the tax did was virtue signal, and make life more expensive for people.
The real problem with most "green" initiates is simply that they have no tangible benefits for people. Paying more...
As someone who spent a lot of time on the bridge, I have definitely seen people kicked off the bridge for various reasons, including just being there. That said, often the person was being disruptive in some way. Most operations spaces are marked "Authorized Personnel Only", even if it's not...
Admittedly, I'll never be on a gun line again in my life, but I can see a real value in Caesar as the primary SPG, and a tracked SPG like the M190 or K9 for armoured forces.
With the Caesar costing 1/3 the price of an Archer, we can buy a lot more of them to make sure we have enough for the...
All the renderings I have seen have bridge wings, so I'm guessing there are doors to get out to the wings.
If there aren't bridge wings, or easy access to the upper decks, it creates an issue for Met to be able to do observations for flying.
True, there are some things that can't be fixed by twinning the roads, but twinning them makes it a more appealing route. More appealing routes get used more often. Montreal to Calgary can be quicker if the roads in Canada are better.
They were uncommon, but not unheard of. Things are changing, and planning for the world to go back to 1999, 2009, or 2019 is not realistic.
Again, we don't need to make panicked moves, but we do need to diversify.
