CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

I agree with the cost to modify the jets. However, I’m concerned about the parts for the Global jets themselves. Boeing is frequently trying to commit corporate suicide but I’d wager the ongoing parts chain for Boeing’S 737ng is more viable than a Bombardier Global.

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

One thing that is bothering me not only the global parts availability but the parts availability in total. Bombardier will eventually drive itself into the bankruptcy giving Canada yet another orphan fleet.

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

They should have thought of that before the CMMA was going to be released. And the government wasn’t exactly cryptic in the launching of the program. Sure, for the next round or for the next AEW platform, sure. But Canada doesn’t have the time fiddle around with an opportunist French company...

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

Sorry, my brain is unique. I was referring to how the price of the went from $9 billion to $40 billion making its price to high for the Harper government.

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

I could see a permanently unfinished Globaleye project to placate that money sponge. The public would have to be convinced reactors parked in our ports acceptable. I’m skeptical. I’ve been wrong before, just look at my misgivings about the P-8a. That stopped when the auditor general stepped in...

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

In my opinion, the Americans will win out because they are sick of us f@3king around and low balling continental defence. The same reason the submarine projected is being expedite. The same the economic requirements where change on FFCP to exclude other than the F-35. …

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Are we going to lease people from Davie, or simply employ them? Are there insurance issues? AORs are far less useful if they can’t be anywhere where it can be seriously fired at. Also it would cost more than naval personal. I’ve always wondered why we don’t pay the navy more than the going...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Yes but the government did not let Davie eat Seaspan’s dinner. The coast gaurd needs more ships and that is great, but geopolitically, Seaspan matters. Davie does not. A US company has little appetite for Quebec politics.

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

Victoria and Vancouver shipyards are both operated by Seaspan. David is a refit yard. All of our ships, CCG, RCN frigates and subs are maintained there. I don’t think Seaspan’s parent company is interested in screwing around with Canadian politics. The government has to follow the NSS or they...

AOR Replacement & the Joint Support Ship (Merged Threads)

By then it will be a 30yo ship. If the current government wanted a 3rd AOR (i agree we need some sort HADR vessel) it would likely buy another JSS.

My point though is that everything has been moved forward.

    Replacing the Subs

I would add our sudden desire to buy Boeing’s P9 for > $9 billion and OTH radars > $3 billion. Those purchases were not accounted for and gets in the way of yet more social programs. And a government that relies in part on Quebec votes seemed to outright ignore Bomberdier’s whining money pit...

    Replacing the Subs

allowed to think about it, let alone publicly, is a good sign. The Americans must have really “impressed” our current government.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

The latest on Polar Ice Breakers from April 4th. The only problems is that it says that the negotiations are still underway with Davie. https://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/app-acq/amd-dp/mer-sea/sncn-nss/polaire-polar-eng.html

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I wouldn’t be to bothered if Damen bought Seaspan. Though I don’t think tha the Washington Companies are trying to rip off Canadians.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

Everyone’s favourite shipyard. I live in Vancouver, so Seaspan must be the best and has never got a little bit of graft. I’m happy about 2 things: Seaspan is still getting a polar 2 (i think they are building 2 now and Seaspan has one on its books Polar Progress: Find out what’s happening...

CMMA - replacing the CP140 Aurora

Because of the speed of this LOR I think that we are having our arms twisted by the US Govt. So, we might get the amount the number of the P-8s that the US thinks we should have.
