    LPC leadership race - 2025

If the Liberals lose the election, don’t expect Carney to hang around long. he’ll go back to the board rooms. That’s where the money is. Then the Liberals will again need to pick a new leader.

Maybe reuse the names of the RCN ships involved: Cayuga, Athabaskan, Sioux, Nootka, Huron, Iroquois, Crusader, Haida.

    Replacing the Subs

Trump may want to but he cannot get 60% of congress vote to repeal term limits…. But then Scotus Robert’s has already indicated that this president is exempt from prosecution. Next, he’ll be demanding UK provide him with a Crown and Scepter or else face tariffs.

    Replacing the Subs

After all the decades of slowly killing ( no pun intended) off the CF to fund social engineering programs, I have trouble believing we would buy more than 6 or so subs or spend 2%. I accept and expect we must do it but after Trump is gone by 2029 (hopefully sooner) I feel we’ll revert back to...

    Replacing the Subs

AECL is out of the nuclear fission & isotope production business. They are left with cleanup of their old facilities and shuttered Canadian CANDU sites. Their CNL division is available to assist in testing and research. My point was that Canada is out of the reactor business unless SNC Lavalin...

    Replacing the Subs

Nothing to show except egg on the face of Canada. Maple 1 & Maple 2. What a shame , those medical isotopes are badly needed. I understood that one of the CANDU’s had some modifications to produce some required isotopes but I think much of the slack was picked by foreign corporations.

    Replacing the Subs

S-80A has had a long and painful gestation . Electric Boat was called in to solve the overweight problem which has pushed back deliveries. The AIP is still in development and won’t be fielded until the 3rd or 4th hull. Best to call it a work in progress .

    Replacing the Subs

I believe that all of the design and engineering staff for such a project have long retired; as the song goes…dust in the wind. AECL has been wound down. Old technology from a bygone era. Like the CF105. To restart the nuclear reactor research and design industry in Canada would be difficult and...

Some my books are packed up due to a Reno; I think in “Through a Canadian Periscope” it mentions Vickers in Quebec built a bunch for export.

Totally agree, we cannot be restrained by USA ITAR. Did you want to throw in a couple of Naval Strike Missiles? Merlin makes sense as then we have some commonality.

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

True. At least Seaspan had some experience building the Orcas and some large yachts. By bringing in the Koreans they probably shaved many years off the development curve. I expect that is why Davies owners bought Aker Finland and have hired Pearlson & Pearlson. Thank you for the article...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

I think that may have been for the Polar 2 icebreaker when priorities for Seaspan were being shifted by the government for the 2nd or 3rd time and Davie was trying to get in on the action. Agreed , it would require moving modules halfway around the world; makes little sense. I suspect that...

    New Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy

other than building a motorized barge, Heddle has little to no ship building experience. As their website says, “…core business is ship repair and maintenance “. There is a huge difference between performing ship maintenance and building ships. I’ve performed repairs to my cars but it doesn’t...
