Taliban Change Tactics

“C’est quoi le rapport” as they say in French. What’s the connection?  Which managers in Afghanistan are you suggesting be fired??

Just an observation that 'heavy overhead' is not a problem unique to the CAF/ military.

In general, the greater the prevalence of a 'defect free' culture, the less gets delegated, and the more that senior people have to do personally, which causes them to bloat the size of their staffs.

Unlike the good old days:

'It takes 15,000 casualties to train a Major General.' Ferdinand Foch

Taliban looking slick in all that Uncle Sam kit!

Looks Ike natural trigger discipline…probably one of the SF-trained ANSOF dudes who figured if Ashraf Ghani the President and a bunch of warlords were going to screw off out of the country with a whole bunch of Middle Eastern bribe money, then what the hell…get back into the game after being sold out…can’t blame him.

Yah they definitely upped their capabilities significantly.

I have little doubt we will be back there eventually once ISIS 3.0 emerges 😆, with better weapons and training to boot!

We (The west) have a bad track record of fighting people who fight in flip flops and jammies.
Because we tried to fight a limited war, while winning hearts and minds. You can't win that way... We'd have been better off bombing the place to smaller stones, and forgetting it existed.

If we had done it the Roman/Mongol way, Afghanistan would now have an NHL rink, and a Tim's on every second corner.

Agree with you. You don't win a war on 6 month rotations. You send the Army over and say "Come back with your shield - or on it" (Plutarch, Mor. 241).

I find it funny on a dark way that even the Taliban now suffering terrorist attacks. ( Not sure what side is the good or the bad side)

No one can control that country.
Someone can, they just need to kill off the ones that are against them.

There is nothing magical* about Afghanistan, it's allowed to be a gong show because of how unimportant it is in the grand scheme. It's the Haiti of that region of Asia.

*the countryside is pretty magical, but until they sort themselves out, I won't be vacationing there.

Its a beautiful country full of history! It would be an amazing tourist destination.

COIN conflicts can't be won by 'war tourists' from other countries.

It can only be wrestled to an ultimately messy, and mutually dissatisfied, conclusion by domestic civil/military efforts.

And even then, all bets are off.
