    King Charles III

I think we got a little spoiled with a Head of State who started her reign in her 20s as opposed to the King who is in his 70s and, as you say, now complicated with health issues.

    King Charles III

As like most other things, there is the persistent need to mean something to everyone, which ends up being we mean nothing to anyone. Or, to put it another way, make sure there is no possible way anyone can take the slightest offence to anything, no matter how obscure, because if something...

High Ranking Police Folk Allegedly Behaving Badly

I can't comment on their findings because I don't know the questions and responses, but can say that, until a couple of years ago I was still fairly connected to the OPP even though I retired in the early 2000s, and that "bullying and harassment" are often in the eye of the beholder. To be...

Sikh & India (Alleged) Shenanigans in Canada (split fm Non-Muslim terr thread)

Yes, and it seems the Indian government has criminalized advocating separatism.

    Cost of housing in Canada

So . . . what doesn't kill you (or us, as a nation) makes you stronger?

    Liberal Minority Government 2021 - ????

I agree. Provincially, northern Ontario - very resource-based blue collar - is traditionally very strong for the NDP. Less so federally. I think voters who lean more to social justice/environmental issues, particularly younger voters, will tend to vote NDP, at least for a few years. Some...

    Or escaping an untenable situation.

Sikh & India (Alleged) Shenanigans in Canada (split fm Non-Muslim terr thread)

I think this is key. Calling somebody a "criminal" and actually being one are two different things, and sometimes the scope of "criminal" is a tad elastic. This is a country that, every time they have a train wreck, the first thing they do is arrest the crew.

    Current Dress Regs

My favourite example is an Ontario government building I worked out of. A contractor was in re-sealing the windows and another contractor was in replacing the windows that has just been re-sealed. One literally chased the other around the building.

Well . . . those who are actual students.

    Current Dress Regs

Shuttering the building while in the middle of a $2Mn renovation. The government hits just keep on coming.

Installation of Tampon Dispensers in all Washrooms

John Wayne toilet paper: It's rough, it's tough, and it don't take sh!t from anybody.

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023

Ya, apologies for not running background checks on the folks you referenced. My bad. The fact that there might be some noteworthies and intellectuals who take a different view of the Israeli government should come as no surprise to anyone. The Jewish people, like any other society or culture...

    2023 UCP Alberta election

If the province wants the power to fire at will and override decisions, why not just dispense with the charade of democracy and make all municipal officials provincial employees or appointees? I haven't searched the Alberta government database for the actual Bill, but it might not be too...

The conservative case for the CBC - Jen Gerson

Part of the rut CBC (radio anyway) has been put into is budget cuts have forced the local to become regional. CBC Northern Ontario is now everything from about Parry Sound north and west to the Manitoba border. I think they retained a host/correspondent in TBay but production is out of...
