Maritime Command (MARCOM) is the descendant of [[The Royal Canadian Navy]] (RCN).
On February 1, 1968, the Canadian Forces Reorganization Act took effect, amalgamating [[the Canadian Army]], the Royal Canadian Navy and [[the Royal Canadian Air Force]] to form [[the Canadian Forces]] (the CF) as we know it today.  Maritime Command (MARCOM) is the descendant of [[The Royal Canadian Navy]] (RCN).
 
Canada's navy originated with the Naval Service Act of 1910. The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) acquired its first warships, the cruisers HMCS Niobe and HMCS Rainbow, in the same year.
