BROWN, Lieutenant-Colonel (Ret'd) Melvyn Cameron, CD 4875

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mel Brown on September 2 at the age of 84.
Beloved husband of almost 61 years to Emily (née Corrigan); Loving father to Lynn (Fred), Nancy and Micheal (Teresa); Devoted grandfather to Christine (Brad), David (Ashley), Heather (Blake), Janice (André), Zack (Morgan), Micheal (Kenedeigh), Logan and Parker (Matt); and proud great-grandfather to Claire, Danika, Josie, Brody, Cameron, Kadison and David.
After Royal Military College, Mel served his country though many decades of service with the Canadian Armed Forces and the Royal Canadian Artillery with a wide range of senior command and staff appointments with the First, Second and Third Regiments of the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, 1 Surface to Surface Missile Battery, The Combat Training Centre, Canadian Forces Military Attaché Washington, and as the Senior Staff Officer Artillery at FMC HQ; to name just a few. After retirement from the military, Mel continued his service to Canada as a senior public servant at National Defence Headquarters for over two decades.
A consummate gentleman, renowned for his quick wit, generous heart, and larger-than-life character, Mel will be deeply missed by family, friends and comrades-in-arms alike.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, a private visitation and memorial service will take place on Monday, September 13, 2021 followed by the inurnment at Beechwood, Cemetery and Cremation Services (280, Beechwood Ave. Ottawa, ON). Online condolences can be left at
