    King Charles III

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool monarchist, but I actually think developing our own traditions for the King of Canada makes some sense. The "Snowflake" crown looks good, and is a distinctly Canadian emblem. If Canada creates its own tradition of the monarch facing one direction, that's great as well...

    Replacing the Subs

True, I had essentially pointed that out in a prior post so didn't repeat myself. The point I was making is that it wasn't a navy/Topshee decision.

    King Charles III

I'd expect the King gets to choose, even if tradition has been to alternate, much like choosing which crown to use.

How did you come to this conclusion?

    Replacing the Subs

I'm sure the ORs would love the extra task of tracking who was and wasn't getting a taxable benefit, it's not like most are already understaffed and over worked... Treasury Board said parking was a taxable benefit, the CAF chose the paid parking route across the CAF. Why would Halifax be given...

    Replacing the Subs

I wasn't aware he was the Treasury Board... free parking was deemed a taxable benefit in municipalities that charge for parking. Esquimalt doesn't pay, because the town doesn't charge for parking.

Federal Government & Union spar over returning to office

That is the most CAF thing I've seen in a long time... and I just cleared into barracks in Gagetown earlier today, where I was supplied twin bedding for a double bed.

    Hamas invaded Israel 2023

Have you considered that people were actually opposed to the EA, and not the clearing of protestors? I know it's convenient to paint people with a different opinions as dumb hypocrites, but it's not always(or often) the case.

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

Only get you so far, as evidenced by the recruiting and retention problems faced by most Western militaries.

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

Very true, but out of 60K+ CAF members, it's still a small number, and we still send people who don't really want to go, and that don't enjoy it up there. Make that number 600-900 and you're going to significantly increase the number of people who hate it, and want to get out however they can...

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

We only have a few people up there, and they all screen for it. It makes sense that those who make it through screening enjoy it. Double or triple the numbers and you'll likely find a lot less happy campers up there.

    Federal Budget 2024 megathread

They have 9 years of LPC government to use, they are not short of material. If you have a tool that works, you use it, when it no longer works you use something else.

    Federal Budget 2024 megathread

It seems interesting that they chose to go after the demographic most likely to support them. Not many working class people have second homes or cottages, but lots of upper-middle/upper class people do.

    Cost of housing in Canada

I wonder how well it will do in Canada. I suspect there will be a lot of "hate" watching, and a lot of angry posts about it all over social media.

    CDS General Eyre announces retirement

Can't do that, might raise morale. Forcing people to move to a high cost of living area, to do a thankless, soul crushing HQ job is the CAF way.

    CDS General Eyre announces retirement

You implied that those who enjoy a hybrid work schedule were somehow less dedicated to the CAF, and were more civil servants. I'm curious what NCR experience you have to come to that conclusion? It's not a tangent, if you'd read what I wrote you'd see that I was highlighting that all jobs have...

    CDS General Eyre announces retirement

You seem to be under the impression that nobody in Ottawa is ever in the office, and that in-person meetings/briefings aren't occurring. That is not the case, and has not been the case since Ontario loosened it's COVID restrictions back in 2021. What is happening is people are working a day or...

Canada to Spend $5.0Bil on AEW Aircraft

Pembrooke is 1.5 hours from a city of a million. Oromocto is four hours drive from Halifax, 8 from Montreal or Boston, etc... They also aren't in the land of the midnight sun, with winters that are long and bitterly cold. True, but it's largely unpopulated and can be defended from the air...
